Many people avoid doing things and experiencing certain aspects of life because of their fears or nerves. Going to the dentist to get teeth checked or repaired is one of those aspects, and some people may let those fears keep them away from the dentist longer than they should. They may wait too long and a simple problem can become a more serious one if not given the attention it needs right away. Therefore, for patients who are nervous about experiencing pain at the dentist’s office, there are solutions that can help you put away those fears and get your dental health back in order.
Calming our patients fears is of special concern at Portmore Dental Office. Every one of our staff members knows that patients are anxious when they come in to have their teeth worked on, and that some patients experience more anxiety than others. Because of this, we offer what is known as Sedation Dentistry, where the patients are fully sedated and don’t feel the pain of the treatments that they are undergoing.
Full sedation takes place in the form of an IV, or in its milder form, nitrous oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas. We also have what we call the ‘wand,’ which is as close to a painless injection as possible. And for the very severe cases, we even bring in a hypno-therapist who can calm the patient and have them relaxed throughout their treatment or treatments. For patients requiring the milder forms of sedation or even those who don’t need it at all, we offer headphones with soothing music so that they don’t become nervous with the sound of the drill.
Sedation dentistry is quite helpful when nervous patients need a more complex procedure done, or if they need to have more than one treatment done. We can take care of several problems in one visit under sedation so that the patient does not need to come in for several visits and doesn’t have to go through their nervous feelings repeatedly.
While sedation dentistry does offer a number of advantages in easing the concerns of nervous patients, we take the necessary precautions when putting our patients under this procedure. The highest level of care is taken to make sure that only the required amount of sedation is given and that the patient is not kept under for longer than necessary. With our experienced and highly trained personnel on board, there is little to worry about, other than showing off your beautiful smile after your treatment.
