The words 'root canal' is feared by many, even though the treatment itself is not all that painful or time consuming. The reason that a person might need a root canal is when the root of the tooth becomes infected and has to be removed. A root canal is actually a very valuable treatment because if the tooth cannot be treated by root canal, it will have to be removed and replaced with an implant. It is always more advisable and more efficient to keep a natural tooth rather than having a replacement put in.
