The General Dental Council (our regulating body) has recently announced changes to the way that dental professionals carry out and record their CPD (continuing professional development) activity.
The changes have caused some confusion within the industry, but essentially it means that training and development for all team members will become more focused, streamlined and timely. Within the new guidelines, there is a requirement for every GDC registered team member to have a detailed Personal Development Plan (PDP) which describes planned training and development activity for the next 5 years in line with personal developmental needs.
These requirements will ensure that dental teams and individuals plan training and learning accordingly. It will mean that each clinical team member has a development plan that is focused on the needs of the practice and the individual rather than just a ‘tick-box’ list of activities/training in order to ‘complete the hours’.
At Portmore, we really welcome these changes. As a practice, we have always been committed to the training and development of the entire team. We believe that training will encourage team members to feel motivated, empowered, flourish and therefore grow as individuals. It also means that we have a highly skilled workforce who are able to share skills and constantly learn from each other. For our patients, this undoubtedly means that we can deliver the very best levels of clinical dentistry and patient care which enhances patient experience.
All team members are currently working on their development plans which will be rolled out by the end of February – exciting times ahead for us all!« back to news
