I wanted to find some form of exercise that would help keep me fit and healthy. Something that wouldn’t bore me to tears like the gym. Anyone that knows me knows I would NEVER diet, so it’s important that I do something.
Hot yoga is yoga practiced in a room with temperatures up to 40 degrees.
People had told me all sorts of horrors such as people fainting half way through the class due to the heat, or that if you feel unwell they won’t let you leave the room. I don’t know where these people went but it was nothing like that. I’m guessing the ones who had fainted were not drinking enough water, which is important for any exercise you take part in.
My first class was tough. The combination of the heat and the yoga started to get to me near the end. The instructors kept saying to listen to your body. If you need to, you can just sit and get yourself together before continuing. So that’s exactly what I did. I’ve never felt more relaxed yet energized. I looked like I’d just jumped into a swimming pool and I felt the benefits after just one class.
The yoga poses got easier the more I went and I found myself pushing my body to do more. You get a great feeling of achievement when you can finally do something’s you couldn’t to begin with. It’s an excellent way to keep fit. It’s good for strength, flexibility and balance. Yoga is also a great way to relax your mind, a lot of it is focusing on your breathing.
Had a bad day? Don’t hit the wine, hit the yoga mat. You can feel the stress just leaving your body every second your there.
If you want to try it, I advise you go to Akram Hot Yoga in Woking. You won’t regret it.« back to news
