- Scaling and Polishing, sometimes known as prophylaxis, is routinely carried out on all our clients and visits vary depending upon need. Healthier mouths require less intervention and accordingly our goal for everyone is fewer and less frequent visits with improving gum health.
- Periodontal therapy or gum treatment is provided for a small percentage of our practice population who suffer from ill gum health. Depending upon the level of disease detected, visits to a hygienist may range from single to multiple appointments and the length of these are based on the degree of need.
- Caries prevention therapy is another important service that Portmore provides. Clinical studies indicate that with lifestyle changes, longer life spans and more people taking medication and despite the benefits of fluoride the UK population still suffers from a high level of tooth disease when compared to other countries. We at Portmore look carefully at diet and lifestyle and use saliva testing to benefit our clients and prevent unnecessary and preventable tooth loss.
- Fissure sealants are provided by our hygienists and therapist to isolate, strengthen areas of the tooth surface that are or maybe in the future susceptible to disease.
- Fresh Breath treatment is necessary to those who suffer from bad breath or halitosis whether it is chronic or transient. Life style stresses and habits, even medication can cause concern to individuals, their friends and partners.
- We provide Whitening procedures including" in house" techniques using ZOOM, a recognised and effective system used worldwide and similar "take home" systems with effective and evidence based advice given.

Occasionally some hygiene treatment procedures may require the use of local anaesthetic. All our hygienists are qualified and skilled in this procedure.
