There are several reasons why a patient might require the help of dermal fillers to make their face, neck, and hands look better, younger and more attractive. While dermal fillers are usually used for cosmetic reasons, they can also help when corrections need to be done, in instances such as in scarring. Dermal fillers are also used when the under-layer of the skin becomes weak due to the ageing process. Dermal fillers will technically work as replenishment for the natural collagen that has been rendered less effective due to the aging process.
In our facial treatments sector of Portmore Dental, we have a special interest in dermal fillers under the brand name Restylane, as well as Botox, which are used to get rid of lines and wrinkles on the face, hands, and neck. Lip augmentation, or plumping of the lips, can also be done using Restylane. Botox is better for wrinkles, but plumping out with a filler will get rid of it altogether. Doing a bit of both and combining the treatments will, of course, get better results.
Restylane and Botox are both injected into the skin, at the site where the problems are. Restylane is water-based, plumps out the layer under the wrinkles and lines, and the results are instant. Botox, on the other hand, freezes or stiffens the area of the injection site, smoothening out lines and wrinkles.
The most common usage for dermal fillers has always been the increase of volume and size of the lips, but lines and wrinkles are also treated by filling out the area that has sunk in. Other commonly treated skin conditions are weak and sunken cheeks, acne scars and regular scars, and unsightly veins in aged skin. Generally, the lines, wrinkles and folds that can be treated by use of dermal fillers include lip lines (lipstick or smoke initiated), tear troughs (tired, baggy eyes), marionette lines (mouth to chin), frown lines, crows feet (around the eye), and nasolabial lines (nose to mouth).
We advise our patients on the best treatments for their needs, and will recommend what will help them most efficiently.
